Quick Facts

CALL BEFORE YOU DIG

Planning a home improvement job? Planting a tree? Installing a fence or deck? You need to notify FVAWD and also the utilities.

FVAWD Rules and Regulations requires you to call at least three days in advance. Also, Colorado law requires you to call at least three business days prior to any excavation to give the utilities time to locate facilities (water and sewer lines, gas and electric, communications, and cable) that may be impacted by the excavation.

The number to call is 811. This is a federally-mandated national “Call Before You Dig” number.

When you dial 811, your call is forwarded to the Utility Notification Center of Colorado (UNCC). UNCC operators record the location of the dig and then notify FVAWD and the affected utility companies of your digging plans. Your utility companies will then dispatch a crew to mark the approximate location of your lines. The FVAWD Operations will similarly mark the FVAWD facilities. This service is FREE.
